Johnny English, a disgraced former MI7 agent, is called back to service from his self-imposed exile in the mountains of Tibet. Rumors of an intended assassination plot against the Premier of China when he visits the British Prime Minister for diplomatic talks, in a matter of days, are making everyone in the British government nervous. Against all better judgment, it seems that Johnny English, formerly Sir Johnny English, is the only man for the job.

The movie was...okay. The target audience (and ardent fans of Rowan Atkinson) will probably enjoy the movie more than I did. However, that's not to say the movie was awful. It did have humorous elements but the director opted for pushing the thriller aspect (ie: James Bond-like spy fare) rather than the humor. (The director explains his decisions in the deleted scenes portion of the DVD.)

I expected the humor to be sophomoric and it was; but I expected more humor and was a bit disappointed that it was lacking.

This is the first movie featuring Johnny English that I have viewed although it is the second one to be filmed. The first, Johnny English, was released in 2003.

Mediocre as the film might be, I do have to admit, Johnny English Reborn is better than some of the James Bond movies. (Those with Pierce Brosnan come to mind.)

I'm glad I didn't rush to the theater to see it, but it was a fair night's entertainment as a rented video.
